A frightening  light strike in India

A lightning strike in India's poorest state, Bihar, killed 95 people on Thursday, according to a foreign news agency.  Manish Kumar, a senior state disaster management official, confirmed the deaths.  The dead included several children and farmers who were not at home to graze the animals.  Similarly, lightning killed 24 people in Uttar Pradesh and 3 in Maharashtra.
It should be noted that lightning strikes in northern India kill an average of 2,000 people every year, but recent deaths have reached the highest level in many years.  In India, electricity falls between April and July every year.  This period is the arrival of the monsoon.
According to an NGO, there were 1,333 deaths in the four months from April to July last year.  Most of those killed lived in rural areas and most took refuge under trees after the lightning struck.
